The À la carte cookbook, now available in a number of Montreal bookstores and partner establishments, is special in many ways:
When her sons were small, Rebecca Fruchter-Klein got involved in shaping a nutrition culture at their school and led a team of parents in developing a cookbook keepsake for the group graduating from kindergarten. She had completed an MBA focused on entrepreneurship before becoming certified as a nutritional consultant and knew she wanted to use her education and experience to create a meaningful project: This cookbook became that project.
Rebecca and her husband have long supported the Montreal Children’s Hospital and so, when the time came to select a cause, it was natural for them to choose the hospital.
“The cookbook is a way for me to make a difference in the broader community,” said Rebecca. “I have always felt strongly about modelling an active, healthy lifestyle for our children: À La Carte is a way for me to share this passion with others – and to help support the hospital at the same time.”
When Rebecca approached HNA for help with her project, the tax team responded enthusiastically; three of our experts got involved in a pro bono capacity. Daniel St-Laurent, Farouk Mekideche and Marie-Claire Lorange advised Rebecca in her choice of accounting options, the process of creating the legal entity as well as tax obligations, expenses and guidelines for consignment relationships with distributors.
“I am so thankful for the partners’ kindness in sharing their expertise and in answering my questions,” Rebecca said. “The project could not have been a success without their guidance.”
Because of the collaboration of HNA and everyone else involved in the project, Rebecca is able to donate 100 per cent of proceeds from book sales to the Montreal Children’s Hospital.
